Early enthusiasm for the principles of Open Building was not reflected in any volume of built projects in the UK. New drivers for improving both the performance and the customer focus of the UK house-building building industry have identified the contribution a more industrialised production method can make in both of these areas. Some recent research has considered how Open Building may be a powerful enabler of component-based approaches. A grouping of component and subsystem manufacturers have been involved both in the development of a generic fit-out specification, and in product development of relevance to it.
